Phnom Penh Administration Bans Fireworks on Lunar New Year

PHNOM PENH: Phnom Penh Capital Administration issued a proclamation banning the use of fireworks and explosives of all kinds during the upcoming 2022 Lunar New Year to avoid affecting the health of the sick as well as affecting security and order of society.

In the proclamation dated Tuesday, 25 January 2022, the Phnom Penh Capital Administration ordered the confiscation and ban on the use of fireworks and all kinds of explosives from 31 January to 3 February to avoid any incidents. The Phnom Penh Capital Administration also ordered the relevant authorities to monitor, prevent and remind the people in Phnom Penh not to set fireworks or explosives of any kind during the festival.

In addition to banning fireworks, the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration also prohibits all forms of gambling and other unauthorized religious or traditional marches. In particular, the burning of kerosene must be done in metal containers or earthen pots, it is strictly forbidden to burn kerosene on the sidewalk or on public roads.

Entertainment venues across the city must adhere to health measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, especially the Omicron variant, maintain security, safety, public order, dignity, and be careful in lighting candles, incense sticks, and electric stoves that could cause fire if left unattended.

The Department of Cult and Religion of Phnom Penh and the 14 District Departments and units around the Capital Administration shall disseminate the instructions to the China-Vietnam Association, civil servants, subordinates and local people to be aware of this instruction.

Phnom Penh Capital Administration urges citizens to take action against those who violate this instruction or commit crimes that cause social unrest, disorder, affect security, safety and public order, to punish them according to the law in force.
